Melanie Lewis is an experienced performer and vocal coach. For the past seven years, whilst still working as a singer, she has been teaching singing both in 1:1 lessons and vocal groups. Her most recent projects in 2011 have included arranging and singing in the 4 piece vocal section for A Night with Will Young (to be aired ITV1, Sat 27th August) and similarly for Gary Barlow’s GB40 concert at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, which was broadcast live on Radio 2 in January; vocal coaching the hit boy band ‘The Wanted’ for their live tv performance for Comic Relief - and teaching rock and pop vocal masterclasses at the Royal Academy of Music and Millennium Performing Arts School in London.

Her clients include singers working within the music industry, the musical theatre profession, and also students of all ages and abilities who want to work on their voices to achieve their goals, either for their vocation, or for purely personal or recreational reasons.

By drawing from her extensive groundwork in studio and live performance, she is able to encourage the best possible results from students in every aspect from vocal technique to visual presentation. She is trained in the Estill Voice Model, which is taught in all music genres, but Mel believes it is uniquely valuable in supporting and enhancing modern pop, rock, and musical theatre styles - without risk to the voice.

Having trained first in classical ballet as a scholarship student at the Royal Academy of Dance in London and then at Elmhurst Ballet School where she became a graduate of the Musical Theatre Course, she began her performance career in theatre for 4 years, including roles in Gypsy and The Girlfriend, then began working in the music industry as a session singer, recording, touring and in television.

She has recorded and performed live as lead vocalist on two UK hit dance singles and sung backing vocals for many artists, including Take That, Robbie Williams, Will Young, Annie Lennox, Leona Lewis, Lily Allen, Dizzee Rascal, Cheryl Cole, Paulo Nutini, Mika, Daniel Merriweather, Gabrielle, D:Ream, Lisa Stansfield, Pauline Henry, Kim Wilde and rock artist Eikichi Yazawa (Japan). She has also sung on many radio and tv adverts including Radio One, Dublin 98 and Virgin Radio logo jingles, played the part of Frida in Bjorn Again and performs as lead vocalist for corporate band work internationally.

Singing has always been a passion for Mel; it offers a chance for everyone to express their deepest emotions and allow themselves and anyone listening to share in that wonderful experience – and added to that – it feels good!

"When I sing, I want people to feel what I’m feeling and to be moved in the same way I am when I hear something fantastic – and it’s possible for anyone to work on their singing so they’re able to do the same, whatever their age, vocal ability or experience."
